Pamela Reed is a psychologist who developed the Theory of self-transcendence, which is a framework for understanding how people cope with difficult life situations and enhance their well-being. She based her theory on the idea that humans have a capacity to transcend their physical and personal limitations and connect with something greater than themselves, such as nature, spirituality, or humanity. She applied her theory to various populations, such as older adults, children, and people with chronic illnesses. She also conducted research on the factors that influence self-transcendence and its outcomes on mental health, quality of life, and coping. Pamela Reed is currently a professor at the University of Arizona College of Nursing and a member of several professional associations.
