The executive network in the brain is a large-scale network that is involved in high-level cognitive tasks, such as decision-making, problem-solving, working memory and goal-directed behaviour. The executive network consists of several regions in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the posterior parietal cortex (PPC), which work together or in opposition with other brain networks. The executive network is also known as the central executive network (CEN) or the frontoparietal network. The executive network is essential for coordinating mental processes and actions in accordance with current goals and plans.
