C. Robert Cloninger is an American psychiatrist and geneticist who has conducted influential research on the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of mental health and illness. He is a professor emeritus at Washington University in St. Louis, where he previously held the Wallace Renard Professorship of Psychiatry and served as the director of the Sansone Family Center for Well-Being and the Center for Psychobiology of Personality. He is also the director of the Anthropedia Institute, a non-profit organization that promotes wellbeing through education and coaching. Cloninger is known for his studies on the genetics and neurobiology of personality and personality disorders, as well as his development of personality assessment tools such as the Tridimensional Personality Questionnaire (TPQ) and the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). He has also written books on the science of well-being and happiness. Cloninger has received many awards and honours for his contributions to psychiatry, psychology, and genetics, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
